CagriSema®: Combo Semaglutide-Amylin Analogue Boosts Weight Loss Regardless of Diabetes

Updated June 2026

A new investigational weight-loss medication called CagriSema® is showing very promising results in adults with obesity or overweight. CagriSema combines two medications:

Together, these medications appear to reduce hunger and improve fullness more than either medication alone. In studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine, CagriSema helped people lose significant weight whether or not they had Type 2 diabetes.

What Is CagriSema®?

CagriSema is a once-weekly injectable medication being studied for chronic weight management. It combines semaglutide with cagrilintide in one treatment.

Semaglutide works like a hormone called GLP-1. It helps reduce appetite, slows stomach emptying, and helps patients feel satisfied with smaller amounts of food.

Cagrilintide works like amylin, another natural hormone released by the pancreas after eating. Amylin helps people feel full and may reduce food cravings.

How Much Weight Loss Was Seen?

In adults with obesity or overweight without diabetes, CagriSema produced major weight loss over 68 weeks. In simple terms, many patients lost around one-fifth of their starting body weight.

What does 20% weight loss mean?

  • A 200-pound person could lose about 40 pounds.
  • A 250-pound person could lose about 50 pounds.
  • A 300-pound person could lose about 60 pounds.

This amount of weight loss can make a meaningful difference in blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, sleep apnea, joint pain, mobility, and overall health.

Does It Work in People With Diabetes?

Yes. A separate study looked at adults with obesity or overweight who also had Type 2 diabetes. CagriSema helped these patients lose weight and also improved blood sugar control.

The main takeaway is simple: CagriSema helped with weight loss whether patients had diabetes or not.

Why Might CagriSema® Work Better?

Obesity is not simply a matter of willpower. Hunger, fullness, metabolism, genetics, sleep, medications, and medical conditions all play a role.

CagriSema targets more than one appetite pathway:

Common Side Effects

The most common side effects were similar to other GLP-1 medications:

These symptoms are often more noticeable when the dose is being increased.

Is CagriSema® Available Now?

CagriSema is still investigational and is not yet available for routine prescribing in the United States. If approved, it may become an important new option for medical weight management.

Bottom Line

CagriSema combines semaglutide and cagrilintide into a once-weekly injection. Studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed substantial weight loss in adults with and without Type 2 diabetes. This combination may represent the next generation of obesity medication.
